Grizzlies deal Gay to Raptors in three-team trade

The Grizzlies agreed to trade their star swingman to the Raptors on Wednesday, parting with the leading scorer on a team that has aspirations of making a run in the powerful Western Conference. The Raptors gave up point guard Jose Calderon and forward Ed Davis in the deal that also included Grizzlies backup center Hamed Haddadi, and Memphis then shipped Calderon to Detroit for Austin Daye and Tayshaun Prince.

Gay, averaging 17.2 points and 5.9 rebounds, signed a five-year, $82 million maximum contract in July 2010 with Memphis. The 6-foot-8 small forward is due $16.5 million this season with $37 million more over the next two years. That’s a big number for new owner Robert Pera, who took over the franchise last November and has quickly started addressing the team’s salary situation.

Nike Air Zoom Turf Jet 97

This weekend the Zoom Jet Turf ’97 returned for its first ever retro release. The classic turf trainer endorsed by Brett Favre upon its initial release in 1997 makes a welcome comeback for many Nike Training fans. The shoe returns in its original “Copper” colorway (‘White/Black-Copper Metal-Neutral Grey’) as well as an all new metallic green accented colorway of ‘Black/Anthracite-Stealth-Neutral Grey’. Both feature the turf-ready clear outsole just like the originals.

Look for the Nike Air Zoom Turf Jet 97 now at select Nike Sportswear retailers for $140.

Eagles hire Chip Kelly as coach

Image

The Eagles hired Kelly on Wednesday, just 10 days after he originally decided to stay at Oregon. The 49-year-old Kelly, known as an offensive innovator, becomes the 21st coach in team history and replaces Andy Reid, who was fired on Dec. 31 after a 4-12 season.

Kelly will be introduced at a news conference at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Eagles’ practice facility.

Kelly, 46-7 in four years at Oregon, interviewed with the Eagles, Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills in a two-day span after leading the fast-flying Ducks to a victory over Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 3.

Kelly ended a whirlwind day by boarding a plane in Eugene, Ore., headed for Philadelphia, at 3:30 p.m. EST. When he arrived at Philadelphia International Airport shortly after 7 p.m., he quickly saw a glimpse of what this team means to this city. Not only were general Howie Roseman and president Don Smolenski waiting for him on the runway. They arrived with a police escort. There were fans, decked out in green, on hand, as well.

Jordan Retro 1 High

On Saturday January 5, 2013 an iconic jordan, in my opinion, returned to shelves in almost original form since 1994. Sure the quality isn’t the same but its not too many shoes that are. There was a pair released in 2003, but it was all patent leather so that doesn’t count because the original didn’t have patent leather on them. Despite the logo on the tongue and the heel of the shoe changing. This is really close to the original. When I found out the shoe was releasing again I jumped at the opportunity to have a pair in my collection. I didn’t have the opportunity back in the day to get Jordans so this was my chance to get this classic shoe in a original color way for retail. Check out the shoes below as well as a trading card of Mike rocking this OG color-way during his rookie of the year season.
